About

The music of Daniel D’Adamo is a direct, complex and refined work. In his pieces, he builds-up musical forms that do not avoid expressiveness, exploring the potentials of musical dramaturgy. He often works with music materials that once developed, are projected through an elaborated and complex musical scale.

His origins

Daniel D’Adamo is a composer born in Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 1966 and established in Paris (France), since 1992. He composed more than fifty instrumental, electroacoustic and mixed works for various instrumental, orchestral and vocal ensembles, as well as stage works and chamber operas that were presented in France, Argentina and the USA.

He received several distinctions as the Boucourechliev Price, the Charles Cros Academy Price, the Prix de Printemps of the french composers society (Sacem), the GRAME-EOC composition price and has been artist-in-residence at Villa Medici in Rome during the biennium 1997-1999.

Experience

Different festivals and institutions have commissioned him new pieces, such as Radio France, IRCAM, INA-GRM, French Ministry of Culture, Festival Musica in Strasbourg, Biennale of Lyon, Festival Manifeste, Festival Présences, Festival Manca – Orchestre Philharmonique of Nice, Inventionen festival in Germany, Archipel Festival in Geneva, ensembles as Het Spectra in Belgium, Nouvel Ensemble Modern in Montréal, Contrechamps in Geneva, Barcelona Modern in Spain, TM+, Court-Circuit, Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, Collectif lovemusic, Accroche Note, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, AtMusica, L’Instant Donné, AlmaViva in France, string quartet Tana, string quartet Bela, etc.

His works have been supported by ProQuartet, Jorge Luis Borges and Maria Kodama International Foundation, Mécénat Musical-Société Générale, Diaphonique, SACEM, Salabert Foundation, etc.

Daniel D’Adamo has worked with conductors such as Marko Letonja, Laurent Cuniot, Pierre-André Valade, Daniel Kawka, Clement Power, Lorraine Vaillancourt, Geoffroy Jourdain, Eduardo Lopes, Filip Rathé, Xavier Pagès-Corella, etc.

Residencies

He has been composer in residence in different structures as Abbaye de Royaumont (Madrigali and Nuits-Cassation), Ircam (d’ombra II, The Lehmann discontinuity), Césaré-CNCM (Lips, your lips), GMEM-CNCM (Keep your furies, UND), Art Zoyd (A Faraday cage), Grame-CNCM (Plier/Déplier, UND), Les percussions de Strasbourg (Die Rrunde Zahl), etc.

Teaching

He has been invited to teach composition at the University of Austin in Texas, Barcelona Modern Academy, Musikene – San Sebastian in Spain, International Composers Pyramid in England and France, Festival Musica in Strasbourg, Abbaye de Royaumont near Paris, Conservatory of Lyon, Music Conservatory of Zhejiang in China, University Institut for the Arts in Buenos Aires, University of Guanajuato in Mexico, etc. Since 2015, he helds a regular teaching position as professor of composition at the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR) and at the Music Conservatory in Strasbourg.

His music has been released in several CD’s and his scores are published by Le Chant du Monde-Wise Music Classical.

Since 2021, Daniel D’Adamo is co-director of the Ensamble ArtHaus established in the Fundación ArtHaus of Buenos Aires.
